NOIR | DEVELOP MARITIME INVESTIGATIONS

,,To protect the oceans and uncover criminal activity.”

NOIR’s purpose is to protect the oceans and uncover criminal activity on the seas.

NOIR is a Danish organization collaborating with national and international partners to create and partake in maritime investigations. We exist to form knowledge about the gathering of knowledge; to uncover illegal operations on the seas.

Ultimately:

To protect the oceans.

Projects

Our current and former projects.

Finished

NOIR uses open-source tools and publicly available AIS and KML data to track marine dumping in Danish waters. This simple guide shows you how to do it yourself.

The project is funded by Velux Fonden.

Ongoing

Investigating the Danish waters

NOIR is investigating the health of the Danish waters by gathering data and conducting analysis. We use new methods to uncover activities in the oceans.

The project is funded by Velux Fonden.

Finished

The Dutch Fishermen

In a span of two years, NOIR monitored Dutch fishermen in cooperation with the Danish network TV 2.

The resulting articles concerned illegal fishing in Danish waters with the ship’s AIS turned off, making the ships invisible to others.

Finished

Bootcamp in Bergen

NOIR initiated an interdisciplinary bootcamp in Bergen, Norway. The bootcamp was a result of cooperation with esteemed Lighthouse Reports.

Several Nordic media outlets participated in the event, including TV 2 (DK), Berlingske (DK), Svensk Radio (SE) and Verdans Gang (NO).

In the course of the bootcamp, participants gathered evidence of a Danish company evading sanctions.
